I’m a secret lemon eater

The donks have been assisting at the lemon harvest. My big lemon tree has been long overdue for harvesting. People were out stripping the orange and lemon trees weeks ago, so I have left it far too late and the lemons are too big. The donkeys were ecstatic. Something else to eat…

I have carefully protected this tree from the norty greedy donks for months, since they arrived here in March, and the tree is a happy tree. I took down the electric fencing around the tree for approximately ten minutes, just to get photos of the donks eating lemons. What happened? The landlord drove by and screeched to a halt in his 4×4, leaned out the window and shouted, “Don’t let them eat the lemon tree!” Lovely timing.

About Gareth Thomas

After a mixed career as an aircraft technician, London fringe theatre playwright, Franciscan friar, and secondary school teacher, I find myself looking after the needs of four donkeys in a remote location in the mountains in the Costa Blanca. I like to listen to BBC Radio 4 and the wind in the pine trees. I am writing a comedy about a school in Benidorm. My favourite film of all time is "Jean de Florette". If I had my time again I would not have spent the early 1970s working for Special Branch.
