Happy New Year!

Rubí comes indoors occasionally, as she likes to inspect the changing furniture arrangements and supervise the blog. Here she is enjoying cocktails indoors on New Year’s Day and looking at Morris (her foal) on YouTube.

Some people who know little about these matters do not regard donkeys as indoor pets. Nothing could be further from the truth. Compared with those nasty little fluffy dogs who insist on leaping onto your sofa, donkeys are a very calm and restrained presence in the house. Rubí did her customary exploration of the bookshelves, the mantelpiece, the computer mouse and keyboard. She helped herself to an orange from my table and wandered back outside again.

Rubí is the only donkey who can come into the house. Matilde kicks everything and the young ones just run riot. It is a bit hazardous timing Rubí’s visits into the house between poos, and it is a good thing that the house is not carpeted. Aside from that, she makes the perfect indoor pet.

Happy New Year.

About Gareth Thomas

A fairly mixed career starting as an aircraft technician and later Franciscan friar eventually led into secondary school teaching. I settled in Spain where I teach Geography part-time and spend the rest of my time looking after the needs of four donkeys in a remote location in the mountains in the Costa Blanca. I have three blogs: a geography blog and a donkey blog begun in 2015, plus an old donkey blog which ran from 2010 to 2015.
