Ibiza Part 2

The boat from Denia to Ibiza took four hours. At the halfway point when Ibiza looms into view on the horizon, you can still see the Sierra Bernia back on the Spanish mainland.

The slow boat from Denia comes into San Antonio, the clubbing capital of Europe. I took precisely four minutes to cycle out of it. Here is San Jose church, the first main church you come to on the hill route from San Antonio to the east side of the island. It was always open. Today it was shut.

The windmills are in a sad state of decay. Some of them will be gone in another couple of years.

My plan has been to sleep in a quiet secluded place i knew, the beach at Es Codolar. I have just returned from there. It is a gay cruising area with an all night beach disco. (How do they square that with it being a nature reserve?) So I took this photo of San Francisco church (closed) and I am setting off in the dark to find an alternative rough sleeping spot.

Continues tomorrow on the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady. What will the cathedral of Santa Maria in Ibiza offer for this main feast?

About Gareth Thomas

After a mixed career as an aircraft technician, London fringe theatre playwright, Franciscan friar, and secondary school teacher, I find myself looking after the needs of four donkeys in a remote location in the mountains in the Costa Blanca. I like to listen to BBC Radio 4 and the wind in the pine trees. I am writing a comedy about a school in Benidorm. My favourite film of all time is "Jean de Florette". If I had my time again I would not have spent the early 1970s working for Special Branch.
